Ashleigh Owen is a fat, queer, dyspraxic, anxiety-ridden, working class Artist, Theatre-Maker and Performer based in Liverpool.
Her work challenges misconceptions and stereotypes of people from marginalised identities (e.g. mental health sufferers, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, people with disabilities, the over 65s & ‘othered’ bodies). Ashleigh puts the underdog centre stage, highlighting their voices and experiences to encourage positive social change. Her work has a lot of heart and sends audiences on a roller-coaster of a ride through lightness and darkness using music, cabaret, comedy and parody.
Ashleigh's professional credits have included Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the International Shakespeare Festival in Gdansk, Poland.
She was nominated for Best Entertainer and Best Achievement at The British Plus Size Awards in 2015. In 2013 she was the winner of the body positive, beauty and talent pageant Hamburger Queen. Most recently she was awarded the Lynda La Plante prize for outstanding practice alongside her Masters Degree.
Ashleigh is represented by Alan Hamilton at Hamilton Management.
